One of the most helpful things on my healing journey was learning to meditate. Not for the sake of meditation or to talk about it at parties, but to relieve my own stress and anxiety I was feeling from all that I had been subjected to over the preceding year.
Toxic emotions are one of the biggest blockages that effectively stop the flow of energy within your body. The Chinese call this energy Qi (chi), in Ayurveda it is called Kundalini. This energy travels up and down the center of your body, through your chakras and permeates all of your body. It is believed we can feel where the energy gets “stuck” by feeling where in the body the tension is greatest. It is also believed these energy blockages lead to dis- ease and illness. Learning to meditate can help you release toxic emotions, unblock your energy centers, and help you face challenges with a clear and focused mind.
There is scientific evidence galore on the health benefits of meditation and particularly its ability to reduce stress. I can’t think of too many things more stressful than a cancer diagnosis. Learning to meditate can bring a sense of wellbeing even under the most stressful of situations.
Oleg has been practicing Sahaja Yoga meditation for thirty years! Needless to say, he is a knowledgable and patient teacher. If you’re skeptical about meditation, you’re not alone. If you’re a patient, survivor, or care taker and your goal is stress reduction, don’t ask how it works, just give it a solid try for a reasonable period of time (maybe 15-30 days) and see what happens. Don’t put any pressure on yourself to make something to happen. The results are not in the making, but in the letting go.
“It’s not that by practicing meditation that we become stressless or problemless. That’s an illusion. But the perspective it gives you, the qualities it opens up (in you)… you become a better communicator, you become a better visionary, your awareness opens up and… you see the same problem… differently.”
