Nutrition Therapy & Coaching

While you may have consulted with personal trainers for your fitness goals, a therapist when you were coping with life’s challenges, or doctors for your health condition(s), not many people have consulted with a dietitian or nutritionist in regard to their health goals.

When it comes to health and well-being the most important things are what you eat and how you live (play, rest, work, detox, and de-stress).

Imagine how good life could be if you felt good after you ate. No discomfort, pain, or searching for the nearest restroom…

What would it be like to enjoy a full day of activities with friends or loved ones and not be fatigued at the end? To feel strong and full of energy…

What if you could be at peace with your food choices? Instead of creating anxiety and fear…

The food you eat affects the quality of your life, but it shouldn’t be a source of stress.

Before we get started, I like to do an intro session to better understand your concerns and health goals. This 20-minute session is my opportunity to get to know you and your opportunity to learn how I work.

At the end of the session, you will learn more about my packages and pricing, be able to assess if the process is how you want to proceed, and if I am the right person to help you.

You can expect to learn:

  • The length of time anticipated to accomplish your health goals
  • The number of appointments you will need to commit to
  • The proposed strategy to help you meet your health goals

Once we have decided to work together, you will be asked to fill out a detailed medical history which we will go over in your initial 90-minute appointment. During this appointment, I will make appropriate recommendations for lab work, other tests as needed, dietary changes, herbs and/or supplements, and lifestyle changes.

At the end of your individualized program you will have the option to continue to work with me on a maintenance program. This is a way for you to check in with me on any on-going work you are doing to maintain your health goals or labs.

What is Functional Nutrition

Functional nutrition explores diet, your relationship with food, digestion, absorption, and elimination. It takes into account food sensitivities, food allergies, what you are getting too much of and what you are not getting enough of.

There are many diet programs, but no single diet is right for everyone. This concept of bioindividuality is the foundation of integrative nutrition. Your body is unique in its needs and abilities to metabolize the food you ingest. However, food is not the only thing that “feeds” you. Your thoughts and emotions play a part in how you assimilate all that you take in.

Integrative or Functional Nutrition is the advanced practice of nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention and monitoring for the purpose of promoting optimal wellness while preventing diet and lifestyle related disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you ever worked with someone with my condition?

I have worked with many medical conditions both in the clinical setting and in private practice. In many cases I have worked with someone with your condition. That said, you are a different person and what lead that person to the same condition may be different than what has lead you to the same condition. The recommendations that worked for another person in treating their condition, may be different than what will ultimately work for you. With the functional medicine approach we are looking at a unit of one – YOU!

What results have you achieved with my condition?

This question can only be answered by how diligently you are prepared to work on healing. I can make the recommendations, but I can’t make you implement them. Healing from chronic illness is a team approach. YOU are an essential part of that team! YOUR success is my success. Results are individual because what caused your condition and how you respond to the recommendations are unique to you.

How long will it take to get better?

As we are all individuals, we all adjust and recover on a different timeline. It also depends on how long you have had your condition and how sick you are at the time we start working together. Many of my clients start to feel a difference between 6 to 8 weeks into the therapy protocol. For some it is quicker, for others slower.

I already know what to eat, do I still need to hire a nutritionist?

Olympic athletes know what they need to do to improve their game and yet they still hire coaches. People in various fields know their craft and yet they still look for mentors. Surgeons hire coaches to assess their skills in the OR and make recommendations for how to improve. If you are striving to heal, as your partner in health, I will give you the knowledge of what to do and how to do it to accomplish your health goals.

Why should I choose to work with you?

If you have a health condition, I’m sure you have seen one or more clinicians in an effort to diagnose and treat that problem. What sets me apart, and I’m sure you’ve experienced as lacking, is time. Doctors and specialists in the traditional medical system have precious little time to spend with their patients getting to know them, their lifestyle, what’s important to them, and researching their issues.

When I take on a client, I commit to investing my time and resources to investigate the root causes of the condition, recommend a personalized therapy, request appropriate labs, monitor results, track progress, and make adjustments as necessary. All of which requires time. Time that you deserve.

Why do you work in packages?

You medical condition didn’t manifest overnight and I can’t make you better overnight. My goal is to help you transform your life. The purpose of the package is to give us time to work together, progressing through the recommendations, monitoring progress, and making adjustments along the way.

We live in a complex world and the conditions that ail us are more complex too. It can take time to understand the root cause of an ailment and it can take time for your body to respond to the changes you are making. Packages allow me to guide you on the road back to health knowing that you have follow up appointments already scheduled. Packages allow me to factor in the time I spend working on your case outside of our face-to-face appointments. Packages build more trust in our client-practitioner relationship through our course of working together. And, packages create better outcomes as we are both committed to your recovery and wellness.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

The items you should bring to your first appointment are a completed medical history, a list of all medications and / or supplements you are taking (please bring the bottles if you can), and recent labs or imaging results you have had done.

Do you take insurance?

Currently, at this time, I am not contracted with any particular insurance carrier. I realize this may not be a good fit with all people.

In order to properly evaluate each client, I invest hours of my time before and after appointments to go over intake forms, assess lab work, do relevant research needed, and so much more. Some insurance carriers do reimburse for nutrition consultations. As part of my service, I provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance carrier for direct reimbursement to you.

My fees can be paid in full or a payment plan. Most of the labs I request are covered by insurance, and in the few instances they are not, I can direct you to labs that charge a reduced fee.

I know first-hand how challenging it may be to pay for out of pocket health services, as I myself have been a recipient of out of pocket medical care, and I would not trade the level of service I have received. Time is a precious commodity and there is great value in a medical professional who is willing to spend that time learning about you and your specific health needs.

Why aren’t your fees listed on your website?

Before I offer you a package, I want to make sure we are going to be a good fit for working together. After getting a better understanding of your needs I will either offer you a package or make a referral to another practitioner.
