Relationships are one of the most important things in our lives, but sometimes they can be a double-edged sword. In this episode, we’re talking about relationship remedies with Tracey Coates, a divorce attorney in the D.C./ Maryland area.
I recently did a webinar about the things I consider to be crucial for a life well-lived. Relationships were on that list because unless you’re a hermit, you have relationships – family, friends, neighbors, loved ones who are in your life.
I like to joke sometimes that if there are more than two people, it’s a dysfunctional relationship (and sometimes, just one). 🙂
All kidding aside, strong, positive relationships can have multiple health benefits like quicker healing, improved physical and mental wellbeing, better sleep, reduced pain, and an increased sense of resilience.
We all know that when relationships are in trouble, we suffer. It’s because we are wired for connection. We are deeply feeling and want to be accepted by our tribe.
“The hardest part about marriage is seeing our spouses as individuals instead of the roles they play in the marriage.”
Tracey Coates, Esq.
When relationships aren’t going well, the situation causes stress because it disrupts the natural order of life. When you care about someone, you want to feel those feelings are reciprocated. When they’re not, it hurts. When a loved one suffers, it hurts. And when you grow apart, it hurts.
Relationship remedies can range from couples therapy to divorce and if you find yourself in the latter, it’s good to know the laws governing that process.
Illness, and really any big life-changing event, can have a huge impact on a couple and their relationship. Not all marriages / relationships survive. Given enough time and dedicated work, some marriages/ relationship remedies can help to weather the storm.
